FRSA Training Center Provides World Class Venue for Stormseal Hurricane Makesafe Training

In the wake of Hurricane Michael, the importance of well-trained and accredited roofing contractors to carry out Florida’s rebuilding work and ensure the state’s long-term resilience has been clearly brought into focus. It’s not possible to have highly qualified workers without expertly staffed, purpose-built training facilities, and that’s where the FRSA Educational Foundation Training Center plays a vital role in preparing crews from around the nation.

Hurricane Michael left a 200-mile trail of destruction through Florida. A total of 22 counties in the south were left in a state of emergency. Residents hunkered down in their homes and looked out their windows to see whole sides of houses and uprooted trees flying down their streets. Many of those same residents are now left without a home at all, surrounded only by the splintered remains of what was once their dwelling.

For those lucky enough to still have most of their home standing, many have lost entire sections of roof – if not the whole roof – that was ripped off by the power of the hurricane. As many homeowners experienced in the wake of a wild weather event, the standard make-safe solution in this scenario is a common tarp held over the gaping roof holes by string and loose bricks. This protection is often blown away by ongoing inclement weather, leading to further wind and rain damage.
