{"id":6158,"date":"2021-11-17T12:45:47","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T02:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/?p=6158"},"modified":"2021-11-22T12:54:56","modified_gmt":"2021-11-22T02:54:56","slug":"world-first-aussie-u-s-program-to-shrink-wrap-homes-after-hurricane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/world-first-aussie-u-s-program-to-shrink-wrap-homes-after-hurricane\/","title":{"rendered":"World first Aussie-U.S. Program to \u2018Shrink-Wrap\u2019 Homes After Hurricane"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The U.S. Army has called in the Aussies to help residents recover from Hurricane Ida, which devastated the state of Louisiana.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">More than 100 people were killed and countless homes damaged when 240km\/hr winds made landfall near Port Fourchon on the 29th of August.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6168\" src=\"https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/MAX_0269_LR-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/MAX_0269_LR-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/MAX_0269_LR-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/MAX_0269_LR-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stormseal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/MAX_0269_LR.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><br \/>\nUnder Operation Blue Roof, which is administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), eligible homeowners can apply for a blue tarp to be put on their damaged roofs. But it doesn\u2019t work with all roof types including tiles, slate and metal.<\/p>\n<p>Enter Matthew Lennox from Stormseal, a Sydney-based company that uses a special type of polymer to \u2018shrink-wrap\u2019 damaged roofs.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019ve been talking with USACE for the past 5 years explaining the benefits of Stormseal,\u201d Mr. Lennox said. \u201cI was thrilled to learn that we could assist follow Hurricane Ida.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The pilot \u2018Shrink Film&#8217; program involves installing Stormseal over the roof via furring strips. A contractor then uses heat to shrink the material and create a water-tight seal over the roof.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/djKwCWdzlFE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Homes were selected using the Center for Disease Control\u2019s Social Vulnerability Index, to determine those that needed the most support.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Homeowner Diane Gros, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, had exhausted all of her options to make the necessary repairs to her home and didn\u2019t have insurance.\u201cThank you all for what you are doing,\u201d she said. \u201cUntil you called, nobody was willing to help me.
